Nevada PILB Armed Guard

Higher Purpose Training offers initial training for security guards seeking to obtain their Nevada PILB armed card, renewal courses and qualifications. The initial 2-day course consists of classroom instruction and hands-on instruction on the range. This course satisfies the Nevada PILB (Private Investigator Licensing Board) Armed Guard Training Requirements. 

 

Course topics include:

  • Basic firearm knowledge and the safe handling of firearms

  • Proficiency in firing a handgun and range safety

  • Draw stroke from a duty holster 

  • Armed guard duties 

  • Ammunition knowledge and the safe handling of ammunition

  • Handgun shooting techniques and positions

  • Alternative shooting positions and shooting from cover and/or concealment

  • Laws pertaining to the use of firearms in the State of Nevada 

  • Use of deadly force, the force continuum, civil and criminal liability

  • Avoiding criminal attack and controlling a violent confrontation

 

Prerequisite

To attend this course, security guards must possess a permanent PILB work card and a VEAS (Verification of Employment Armed Security) form signed by a sponsoring employer. 

 

Required for Successful Completion

 

Written Exam (Initial Only)

The written examination will serve to demonstrate basic knowledge of the required subjects outlined by the PILB. The test requires a minimum of 75% to pass.

 

Firearms Qualification (Initial, Renewal & Bi-Annual Qualification)

Course of fire: 30 rounds total.  A humanoid style target such as the B27.

 

Stage 1: 

3 yards, 5 rounds, dominant hand only from the holster, 15 seconds

3 yards, 5 rounds, support hand only, 15 seconds

Stage 2:

7 yards, 5 rounds standing from the holster, reload, 5 rounds kneeling, 30 seconds

Stage 3:

15 yards, 5 rounds standing from the holster, reload, 5 rounds kneeling, 30 seconds

You must qualify with each caliber you intend to carry on duty. 

 

Required Documents & Equipment

  • State-Issued Driver’s License or ID

  • PILB Unarmed Guard Card

  • Completed VEAS form by employer

  • Quality duty handgun (See Recommended Gear)

  • Minimum of 3 magazines

  • Quality duty holster that fulfills all criteria of a proper holster

  • Magazine pouches

  • Brimmed hat

  • Proper range attire (no low cut shirts, closed toed shoes required)

  • 200 rounds of ammunition

  • Wrap-around eye protection

  • Hearing protection (electronic hearing protection preferred)

Course Length

Initial course: 13 hours

Renewal course: 5 hours

 

Cost 

Initial Course: $200 per student

Renewal Course: $100 per student

Bi-Annual Qualification (every 6 months): $30 per attempt

Range fees are not included. Range fees may vary by facility. The range fee may be paid directly to the range facility.

Note: Our fees include PILB fees ($25/initial and renewal; $5/bi-annual qualification)

Training is offered as open enrollment courses or as private training sessions and by request. Minimum number of 4 students is required to host private training.
